Immigrant Visa Issuance

The following data is extracted from Annual Reports of Visa Office, Department of State.

Some abbreviations used in the following data tables:
  • FB = Family-based preference immigrants subject to numerical limits under INA Sec. 203(a)
  • EB = Employment-based preference immigrants subject to numerical limits under INA Sec. 203(b)
  • E1, E2, E3, E4, E5 = Employment-based immigrants categories, from First to Fifth Preference
  • EW = Employment-based immigrants, Other Workers (counted toward the caps of Third Preference)
  • Schedule A = "Schedule A" Workers, a special category that provided extra employment-based immigrant visa numbers during certain years
  • AOS = Adjustment of Status applications processed at USCIS
  • CP = Consular Processing for immigrant visas at US overseas embassies and consulates
Both AOS and CP are channels immigrant visa numbers are used and counted toward per-country visa limit each year.  Department of State publishes only the total and CP numbers.  Therefore, the AOS numbers are calculated by subtracting CP numbers from the totals.
